AUTOMATIC
How long will my power be out before my generator comes on?
30 seconds, on average.
What does “automatic power transfer” mean?
Exactly that, within 30 seconds of a power outage your transfer switch senses the loss of electricity. It automatically turns on the generator and switches supply circuits to provide standby electric power to your home. When the power comes back on, the transfer switch automatically switches back and turns your generator off.
INSTALLATION
What do I have to do?
Nothing. We do it all.
What does DCA Florida do?
Everything. We pull the permits, prepare the site, arrange all electrical and gas line connections, make sure everything meets state and local codes, and get your final inspection approval. We even provide full, lifetime service plans, so you never have to worry about maintenance.
How long does it take?
Because of high demand, delivery times are running 4 to 6 weeks. Add an additional 1 to 2 weeks for electrical connections, gas hookup and final inspection.
What area do you serve?
Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
COST
How much will it cost?
Total prices depend on the generator and transfer switch you choose. Add to that the cost of installation. Every installation is different but, generally, you can expect costs of $3,500 to $5,000 for site preparation and electrical connection, including parts, permits and labor; and $800 to $2,000 for gas plumbing and hookup.
Is Financing available?
Yes. DCA Florida works closely with area lenders to arrange home improvement loans that allow you to make low monthly payments and enjoy income tax benefits as well.
GENERATORS
What kinds of generators do you carry?
DCA Florida specializes in home and commercial standby generators from 7kw to 150kw, running on natural gas and LP. We also handle commercial and industrial generators up to 400kw.
How quiet is my generator?
We offer the quietest standby generators available on the market – as quiet as an average central air conditioner. More than half as quiet as a portable generator, even quieter during weekly Whispertest ® mode.
FUEL
What kind of fuel does my generator use?
Generators run on either natural gas or LP (propane). Natural gas is available through underground lines in many areas of South Florida. LP can be connected anywhere. Both are safe, stable, non-evaporating alternatives to gasoline. You don't have to search for open gas stations, stand in long gas lines, or keep dangerous gas cans around the house.
How will I know if I can get natural gas?
We'll take care of it. We have partnerships with local gas companies to locate and connect to nearby gas lines. We can even tell you about programs that can earn rebates to offset connection costs.
What if I can't get natural gas?
Not a problem. We have partnerships with local propane providers who offer stand-alone tanks and connection services. An average tank offers up to a week of around-the-clock power under normal loads. The provider will deliver more to your home or business as you need it, even after a hurricane.
How much fuel does my generator use?
Fuel consumption varies with the size of the generator and the load you put on it. With natural gas, your generator is connected to a steady source of fuel that never runs out. You never need to refuel. With an LP generator, an average tank offers up to a week of around-the-clock power under normal loads. The provider will deliver more to your home or business as you need it, even after a hurricane.
MAINTENANCE
How long will my generator last?
With normal use and maintenance, a standby generator will last up to 20 years.
Do the generators come with a warranty?
Yes. Every generator we sell comes with a minimum of a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering all parts and labor. DCA Florida also offers full, lifetime service plans and extended warranties on all of its products.
How much maintenance does my generator require?
Generators include an automatic weekly Whispertest ® self-testing feature to ensure proper operation of engine parts and fuel supply. The manufacturer recommends testing under load once a year. The engine is similar to your car engine. It needs regular oil and oil filter changes every six months or 200 hours of operation. Spark plugs and air and fuel filters need to be replaced once a year. DCA Florida offers full lifetime service plans covering all parts and labor for just pennies a day.
